A chemically capped anchor rod is a specific fastening method used in horticulture and other sectors where strong anchoring is required. It consists of a metal anchor rod and a chemical cap.
The chemical capsule is a cylindrical container filled with a special chemical compound. This chemical compound is activated when the capsule is broken or opened. It provides a strong and durable bond between the anchor rod and the buried material, such as concrete or rock.
Installing a chemical capsule anchor rod usually involves the following steps:
- Drill a hole of the correct diameter and depth into the underground material, for example in concrete.
- Place the chemical capsule into the drilled hole.
- Insert the threaded anchor rod into the hole so that the end enters the chemical capsule.
- Turn the anchor rod by hand or using a tool until it is firmly seated in the chemical capsule and the buried material.
- Allow the chemical compound to harden.
- After the bond has fully cured, the object can be secured to the top of the anchor rod using nuts and washers.
The use of a chemical capsule increases the strength and stability of the anchor, making it suitable for applications where high loads may occur, such as securing heavy structures in horticulture. It creates a durable connection that is resistant to tensile and shear forces.
