Growing your own herbs

Fill a small, drainable pot with CANNA Terra Seedmix and plant the seeds about 2 to 3 millimeters deep in the soil. Leave plenty of space between the seeds. Then, water the pot for the first time. Feeding is only necessary when the first three leaves are visible. Then, cover the pot with a sheet of glass or foil and avoid placing it in direct sunlight. Make sure there's enough space between the soil surface and the glass for the seedlings to emerge.

Densely populated in the pot?

Once above ground, you can remove the glass or plastic film from the pot. You can transplant the plants once they have developed two or three leaves. This is also the time to place the pot in a sunny spot, as herbs love light! During the winter months, it's advisable to place a grow light (at least 50 watts) above the pot and extend the natural daylight to 14 hours. Don't forget to water your herbs regularly. Adding CANNA Herb Special to the water once a week is sufficient.

Tips for harvesting herbs

After several weeks/months of lovingly caring for your budding herb plants, the moment has finally arrived: you can harvest! Here are a few tips:

  • For herbs where aroma is most important (rosemary, sage, and lemon balm), it's best to harvest around midday, as that's when they contain the most oil.
  • Harvest the top leaves (including the petiole). This encourages the plant to produce fresh side shoots.
  • Overharvested? Remove the bottom leaves from the cut stems and place the stems in a glass with a little water. You can also put herbs in a plastic bag and refrigerate. This way, your herbs stay crisp and fresh.
  • No fridge space? Freezing is also an option. After picking, rinse the herbs under cold water, shake them dry, place small bunches in plastic bags, and tie them shut.

Instructions for use

  • Shake well before use.
  • Add 3 ml of Herb Special to 1 liter of water and let it warm to room temperature first. Tap water that is too cold can damage the roots. Ensure that excess water can drain from the pot. Dosage remains the same throughout the growing season and for all herb varieties.
  • Feeding once a week is sufficient.

Tip for using Herb Special

After cutting back herbs, give them a little less water for a while until they start growing again.
